Changes to Garland Ave

Post by Daversatile »

WHAT: Meeting to discern public attitude towards the impending Garland Avenue widening
WHEN: July 16
TIME: 6:30pm
WHERE: Trinity United Methodist Church, at Sycamore and Garland

The Arkansas Highway & Transportation Department supports building five continuous lanes.
The City of Fayetteville Streets Committee and City Council propose a full boulevard.
As a compromise, the City administration is proposing “refuge islands,” which are basically short sections of medians with trees that would be included in the design AHTD submitted. The islands aren't what we want, but they may be the best we can get from AHTD.
Currently, bicycle lanes are part of the proposal, and we can ensure they stay there with a strong show of support.
What do you want to see on Garland/Highway 112?
Come voice your opinion.

The City will present these topics for discussion:
1.) Proposed changes and street design
2.) A history of Garland, relevant proposals, and the street bond issue
3.) How we can be strategic with the Highway Department
4.) Why we need to get started soon
