August 26 Freethinker meeting
Posted: Tue Aug 08, 2006 11:05 am
August meeting announcement:
***
Okay, the kiddies are back in school now but what are they being taught
in science class? What does the law require? Is there some question, could there be some doubt? Our evolution expert will tells us what it's all about.
Savonarola will give our main presentation:
"Creationism, Education, and the Law."
In other words, it's time for another action-packed FF meeting!
If time allows this will be a creationism double header. A common
creationist objection to evolution is that, while admitting some
mutation and variation with species they claim there is "never any new information".
You will learn how to best respond with this presentation:
"No New Information?: Rejecting the Creationist Myth with Basic
Genetics."
Everyone is encouraged to tell us about any recent books, movies, news
stories, articles or announcements that relate to freethought or your life. The general public is becoming pessimistic about the conservative agenda these days and we may be seeing the tide turning on a few issues toward a position more favorable to freethought. Have you seen any signs of this lately? Perhaps we can have a general discussion at the meeting about this. Are we emerging from a Dark Age, or are we heading into one?
The meeting:
When: Saturday August 26.
Where: The Blair Municipal Library. 401 W. Mountain St. (two blocks
west of the town square). The library phone number is 571-2222.
Time: 2:00pm.
Room: Willard and Pat Walker Meeting Room. The main meeting room. Walk in the front door, through the lobby and go to your RIGHT. Grab a snack and coffee from Arsaga's beforehand in the lobby if you like.
Questions? Check out our new Fayfreethinker forum. It's really catching
on with over 3,000 posts. See a picture, taken yesterday, of a church
sign in Springdale. It's on our website:
