Religious Cartoons
I can't seem to find another thread for this, so I'll start a new one. If someone runs across the old one, PM me with the link and I'll merge the threads.

That one gave me a chuckle.
I love seeing world leaders making funny hand gestures. It adds so much to their perceived character.

tmiller, That one had me rolling on the floor!
Hey! The Brick Testament has some new material protraying the Book of Revelation.
Take a look at it. Revelation is absurd enough, but the visual portrayal takes it over the top.

Re: Religious Cartoons
This is not some group making fun of religion, this is from a Catholic supply store. Jesus is into all kinds of sports. Isn't he fun?
Etc.
This one might give priests ideas:

A few years ago Conan O'Brien showed these figurines on his TV show for a few laughs. Some people wrote in and complained--even though they are made by the religious.

I know he's Jesus so maybe he has some magical protective force field, but I don't think it's a good idea to play soccer with sandals on. Also that long robe can't be good for his golf swing.
Re: Religious Cartoons
That's Jesus? I just thought he was some long haired white guy (who just got out of the shower)!

Sadly, Robert, I think it's too on-the-nose to be as hilarious as it actually should be.RobertMadewell wrote:This is one of mine.
Or it could just be me. I tend to like the more subtle. You know, so that smart people like you and me get it, but it takes those being ridiculed an extra bit of time before realizing it. Keep 'em coming.

Re: Religious Cartoons
DAR
The problem is, the cartoon tries show the problem of fundie circular reasoning but it ends weak since it seems as if the fundie has solved the problem by pointing out the obvious truth that you are not God. A rather believable claim.
What if... the "Why not?" was changed to:
"What if the book said I was?"
Not perfect but better. This would also work:
"The people who wrote your book weren't God either."
Frame three could be improved by changing it to something like: "If I wrote a book that said it was inspired by God." The question revolves on inspired writing via God, not whether the writer of a book actually IS God. Don't let fundies change the subject (even when they try to do it in your own cartoon!).

Re: Religious Cartoons
The "you are not God" part is just as I intended it. Not only did I want to show the circular reasoning, I wanted to show the special pleading. The fundie stickman is guilty of special pleading because he requires the skeptic stickman to be God, but doesn't require the actual bible authors to be God on the sole merit that it's the bible. The problem is, the cartoon tries show the problem of fundie circular reasoning but it ends weak since it seems as if the fundie has solved the problem by pointing out the obvious truth that you are not God.
Hey I didn't claim to be good at it. (It's stick figures)

Hey Robert,
Don't worry everyone is a critic! I got it but I see things in a very simple way.
Thanks.

Thanks James,
I'm not offended by Darrels criticism. As a matter of fact, I do welcome it and he's right. It was for a cartoon contest, but was rejected because it didn't fit the subject of the contest.

Re: Religious Cartoons
Cartooning can be very lucrative. I read that Charles Schultz's Peanuts empire still makes something like $25 million a year.

Re: Religious Cartoons
My dad had a (fairly large) book of Peanuts cartoons with religious or spiritual meanings, which is kind of funny because I sort of get the idea that Schultz was maybe an atheist. I'll have to see if my mom still has it.

Yes I think he was. I mean, "The Great Pumpkin?" What a great anti-religious teaching tool!

ps. Robert, that cartoon is really good!
