June 2010 Freethinker Meeting

Post by Dardedar »

Hello truth seekers! This Saturday we will be gathering for our June Freethinker meeting in the cool shade of the Fayetteville library main meeting room.

At our last meeting we had a very good turnout with 55 attending. Along with all of the presentations, we gave out a dozen full size space posters.

As part of Darrel's Freethinker/goat presentation we watched these clips, and he promised to pass them along, so here they are:

Kid challenges goat

Goat vs. unreasonable dog

If you forget how to be an assertive freethinker, watch these clips and they'll help you out.

On the menu:

During our first hour we will have some presentations we just could not fit in last time. After a break we will then watch a very special presentation that will show you our Home like you have never seen it before. Starting with early human history and taking us up to present day we will watch this 93 minute documentary which was filmed entirely from the air. When it was released in 2009, it opened in 181 countries and broke the world record for the largest film release in history. We are going to go to some trouble and bring in some special equipment in order to be able to show this beautiful presentation in the full 1080i high definition format in which it was filmed.

Hello freethinkers,

Our June meeting went well with over 40 attending. We paid tribute to the long and productive life of the great skeptic leader Martin Gardner who passed away in May at age 95. Scientific American has a very nice article about him here.

We watched the film "Home" and are pleased to inform you that this is one of the few movies that was made with donations and can be watched worldwide, for free. We had some cable troubles and ended up watching it in only DVD quality but you can learn more about it and watch it in high definition on their main website here. It's also full length and in high definition on youtube here.

Please remember, there will be no freethinker meeting in July. Our next meeting will be August 28th.

We also informed you about a newspaper article that contained a hit piece full of distortions about our group and our billboard campaign. We finally got a copy and have put together a carefully worded reply (see link below). It's rather long but we think you will find it worth your time since it covers many of the misconceptions that keep coming up. It may inspire and inform you in how best to respond to these issues. It is also posted in our forum here. We would like this distributed widely so feel free to pass this email or the link on to others. We'll see if the author of the article takes us up on the opportunity to respond in our forum. Feel free to respond there as well.

See you in August!
