January 2009 Meeting

Post by Dardedar »

Hello truth seekers, it's time for the first 2009 meeting of the Fayetteville Freethinkers!

It looks like it is shaping up to be an outstanding year for freethought.
So, we're going to start the new year out with a bang. Perhaps too often we have been reporting the bad news, reason under attack and a lack of progress against the faith-based superstitions in our society. At this meeting we will have a presentation showing why you can be optimistic about the future of non-belief in America. Doug Krueger will give a lecture called "The Future of Atheism in the U.S." This multimedia presentation has been fine tuned on the road here in Arkansas, from Eureka Springs to Little Rock. Find out how we can know that the tide is turning in favor of non-belief.

Physicist Bill Harter will give our science presentation. He will tell us how quantum wave interference is essential for us to see. He calls this: "Sight & Light: Valentine's day for photons and electrons."

What happens when a senior high school student wears a tee shirt to school saying they are proud to not believe in God? We have a teen freethinker in the field conducting experiments and he will give us his report.

We'll have our scam of the month and a new regular feature: "Moral Question of the Day."

All this, and some funny clips from the Internet if time allows before dinner. Yes, we like to go for dinner afterward. We have about four different places we usually go so lets just decide now so everyone can know in advance. We'll meet for dinner at the Thai Diner in Fayetteville at about 5:00 or a little later.

Bonus:

Jack Makens, the tireless crusader for Thomas Paine asked us to pass along this announcement:

"THOMAS PAINE CELEBRATION!
FAYETTEVILLE LIBRARY
THURSDAY JANUARY 29 6:00 PM

Please join us in celebrating Thomas Paine, an all but forgotten hero who deserves the gratitude of all. It is through his revolutionary concepts and writings at a precarious time in history that brought forth independence for all individuals no matter race, religion or gender. If it weren’t for Paine’s influence in his pamphlet “Common Sense” & “The Crisis Papers”… this country would still be under British rule today.

Come and learn about this courageous man who changed the world for the better. If we ignore our humanitarian benefactors, such as Paine, we offer no evidence to our youth or young in spirit of how we advanced to have the individual freedoms we enjoy today. We wish to help restore Paine’s rightful place in history by honoring him for his courage and revolutionary Ideas.
