September Freethinker Meeting

Post by Dardedar »

Hello freethinkers,

We will be having our regular Freethinker meeting this Saturday at the Fayetteville library.

On the Freethinker agenda:

Dr. Cherry will give us an overview of two hard hitting educational evolution books he has discovered.

Dr. Harter, our resident physicist, will tell us about the recently completed Large Hadron Collider. Bring your questions.

We'll have some funny video bits to see too.

After a break we will watch a documentary based upon the best selling book "Constantine's Sword: The Church and the Jews: A History"

Description:

"Constantine’s Sword is the story of James P. Carroll; a former Catholic priest on a journey to confront his past and inquire into relationships between religiously inspired violence and war. His search also reveals the growing scandal involving religious infiltration of the U.S. military and the terrible consequences of religion’s influence on America’s foreign policy."

As someone once said, if you want to understand the present you need to understand the past. This is film can help. It's beautifully shot and has some truly amazing moments as it takes us across the centuries.

Rottentomatoes.com gives it a score of 86% along with this synopsis:

"This politically explosive documentary delves into the mingling of religion and violence, following former Catholic priest James Carroll as he tracks the trail of blood that leads from the Crusades to America's foreign policy in the Middle East. While taking a historic view of religious fanaticism, CONSTANTINE'S SWORD also presents the very personal story of Carroll himself. Based on Carroll's best-selling book."

This month we will be meeting Board Room. Apparently Bikes Blues and Barbecues needed the main room to show biker movies all day. So our seating is limited to about 33 freethinkers. Come early to secure a seat. If you come too late and we're full you will be left watching "Easy Riders" in the Walker Room with some big biker dudes. We are not kidding.
