Bush, from his press conference the other day:

"It is conceivable that there will be a world in which radical forms, extreme forms, of religion fight each other for influence in the middle east."

Nine minute clip from The Daily Show that plays the bit.

Has been, can be, is. W's genius is misdirecting us from his real evil to an apparent gormlessness in stating the obvious.

"You can imagine a world in which these extremists and radicals got control of energy resources. And then you can imagine them saying, 'We're going to pull a bunch of oil off the market to run your price of oil up unless you do the following. And the following would be along the lines of, well, 'Retreat and let us continue to expand our dark vision.' " - George W. Bush 11/04/06

"And don't think you're off the hook, voters, you're the ones who made this bed. Now you're the ones who are going to have to move over so a gay couple can sleep in it. Tomorrow you're all going to wake up in a brave new world, a world where the Constitution gets trampled by an army of terrorist clones, created in a stem-cell research lab run by homosexual doctors who sterilize their instruments over burning American flags. Where tax-and-spend Democrats take all your hard-earned money and use it to buy electric cars for National Public Radio, and teach evolution to illegal immigrants.
Oh, and everybody's high! You know what, I've had it! You people don't deserve a Republican majority. I quit."
-- Stephen Colbert

"Part of me says, 'Okay, France. You got all the answers? You solve the problems!'" --Limbaugh

"Mr. Cheney enjoys an office on the second floor of the House of Representatives that historically has been designated for the Ways and Means Committee chairman... I talked to Nancy Pelosi about it this morning... I'm trying to find some way to be gentle as I restore the dignity of that office."
-- Charlie Rangel, the incoming chairman of Ways and Means, on kicking that "son of a bitch" out of his office

W of course wouldn't even think of the obvious answer to "terrorists" or anybody else getting ahold of Middle East oil and using it to extort desired behavior from the U.S. is to get off foreign oil. Hope Mr. Rangel does manage to removed the s*** from his office.

Two good rants:

***
Cheney in a Box

smirkingchimp.com

Excerpt:
It was the worst outcome imaginable.
They lost the House and the Senate in one night with one savage blow. Even the Confederate flag at Macaca's house was flying at half-mast. Suddenly the Reich that was 'built to last a thousand years' had been reduced to small blocks of dusty-rubble extending from sea to shining sea. At the epicenter of the twisted-iron and smoldering wreckage; George W. Bush, whose smirking puss had appeared daily on every American TV and in every American newspaper spreading the 'good news' of domestic repression and nonstop war. Now, here he was, once again, convening a news conference, dazed and ashen, propped up amid the scattered debris of a midterm massacre; his party left in utter ruins...
In a moment worthy of Shakespeare, the Fraudster-in-chief had been scuttled by his own party; knifed in the back by his own friends and family who knew that it was finally time to extract the drunken driver from behind the wheel of Mack Truck.

***
"Republicans were oddly oblivious to the fact that they had turned into an unappetizing tableau of bloated, corrupt, dissembling, feckless white hacks who were leaving kids unprotected.
DeLay and Bob Ney sneaking out of Congress with dollar bills flying out of their pockets.
Hastert playing Cardinal Bernard Law, shielding Mark Foley. Rummy, cocky and obtuse as he presided over an imploding Iraq, while failing to give soldiers the armor, support and strategy they needed to come home safely. Cheney, vowing bullheadedly to move full speed ahead on Iraq no matter what the voters decided. W. frantically yelling about how Democrats would let the terrorists win, when his lame-brained policies had spawned more terrorists." --Maureen Dowd

From Bartcop:

"Has the President so failed in his duties to the nation that he should leave office? The answer to that question is yes, and the time for the President to leave is not after months of continued national embarrassment but now. Clinton should resign." -- USA Today editorial, Sept. 15, 1998, Link

The whore newspapers that were super-eager to call for Clinton to step down because he had a girlfriend remain supportive of the bastard who killed 3000 soldiers - because they are whores.

Again and again, America's whore press tells us that getting a blow job
is worse than lying 3,000 soldiers into their graves for no damn reason..

Absolutely the test of any attitude, law, ideal is whether or not it is applied in an equal manner to friend-foe, man-woman, white-brown, R-Dem, elite-"common". (One of the reasons the Rs hate Clinton is he is "common" - as in he came up from a middle-class "broken" home, when to public schools, got into college via scholarship. He is not one of "them".) The media hasn't been anything but a corporate whore for years - possibly since its coup in exposing Nixon (and even then they kept quiet until AFTER the 1972 election). Makes you wonder if corporate propaganda is better than no media at all.

Memorable Quotes by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld

Image

"I would not say that the future is necessarily less predictable than the past. I think the past was not predictable when it started."

"We do know of certain knowledge that he [Osama Bin Laden] is either in Afghanistan, or in some other country, or dead."

"We know where they are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat." –on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction

"Death has a tendency to encourage a depressing view of war."

"Freedom's untidy, and free people are free to make mistakes and commit crimes and do bad things." –on looting in Iraq after the U.S. invasion, adding "stuff happens"

"As you know, you go to war with the army you have, not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time."

"[Osama Bin Laden is] either alive and well or alive and not too well or not alive."

"Needless to say, the President is correct. Whatever it was he said."

"Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know."

"I'm not into this detail stuff. I'm more concepty."

"I don't do quagmires."

"I don't do diplomacy."

"I don't do foreign policy."

"I don't do predictions."

"I don't do numbers."

"I don't do book reviews."

"If I know the answer I'll tell you the answer, and if I don't, I'll just respond, cleverly."

"Oh, Lord. I didn't mean to say anything quotable."

"She comes to me when she wants to be fed. She's smart enough to know she can't feed herself. She's actually a very smart cat. This cat's taught me more about women, than anything my whole life."

I guess we aren't supposed to ask who fed Rush when he was a snot-nosed brat. His mother is either ashamed or brainwashed - or dead.

"Sending more Americans would undermine our strategy of encouraging Iraqis to take the lead in this fight. And sending more Americans would suggest that we intend to stay forever..." --Bush, June 2005

"Our past efforts to secure Baghdad failed for two principal reasons: There were not enough Iraqi and American troops to secure neighborhoods that had been cleared of terrorists and insurgents. And there were too many restrictions on the troops we did have." --Bush, Jan 10 2007

The new Secretary of War:

Image

"At one point Gates, just three weeks on the job, told lawmakers, “I would confess I'm no expert on Iraq.” Later, asked about reaching the right balance between American and Iraqi forces, he told the panel he was “no expert on military matters.”

Committee members pressed Gates, who replaced Donald H. Rumsfeld at the Pentagon, on an exit strategy for the U.S."

There is no mistaking the anguish of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). Sitting in his Senate office, he is uncharacteristically subdued, his voice at times almost inaudible.

Although the Bush administration this week finally embraced his long-standing call to send more troops to Iraq, McCain believes the way it has handled the war "will go down as one of the worst" mistakes in the history of the American military.

"One of the most frustrating things that's ever happened in my political life," he said, "is watching this train wreck."

"We are stuck in a hopeless war led by a clueless man who enjoys only a passing relationship with reality. Rather than admit his many, many errors, he prefers to kill many, many people. And he will continue to do so until someone finds a way to stop him. Our political system has broken down, and our soldiers, the Iraqis, quite possibly the Iranians, and many others must pay for our refusal to admit that with their lives." -- Eric Alterman
