Republicans Pull Another Boner

Or is it Boehner? What's wrong with this new replacement for DeLay? He's on the take just like Tommy.

From The Washington Post:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 02571.html

"He [ Boehner] handed out checks from tobacco lobbyists on the House floor in 1995 while lawmakers were weighing tobacco subsidies. In 2004, he allowed Sallie Mae to throw him a fundraiser while the student lending outfit was lobbying his committee."

Like a good Republican, he wanted to abolish the Department of Education.

"Boehner had earlier tried to abolish the Education Department, but he changed his view and endorsed a significant federal role in education."

Yes, a federal role. So much for less government, eh? But they love big government if they can get religion and vouchers in there somehow.

Boehner ran as a "reform" leader for the Republicans, but he's hardly a Republican of a different stripe.

"Boehner received more than $30,000 in campaign contributions from clients of Abramoff, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan watchdog group."

"Last month, Boehner refused to return some $30,000 in donations from American Indian tribes represented by disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Boehner has been criticized, as well, for the donations he has received from Sallie Mae. The nation's largest provider of student loans has interests before the committee that he chairs."

Boehner cries foul when other people allegedly get out of line--others who are not Republican.

"Boehner first drew notice in the House when the Republicans were in the minority, as a member of the "Gang of Seven" that did its best to publicize alleged Democratic ethical lapses. More than a decade later, a poster showing the seven hangs near his desk in his office across the street from the Capitol."--Ibid.
"We could have done something important Max. We could have fought child abuse or Republicans!" --Oona Hart (played by Victoria Foyt), in the 1995 movie "Last Summer in the Hamptons."
